Edmonton has been slightly more dynamic offensively than New York, but until they fix their goaltending and defensive woes, it’s hard to like them over other talented teams. The NHL’s 4th worst goals against average from the Oilers should be something the Rangers and their many weapons can take advantage of, helping them control this game. On the other side, the Oilers have had it tough with both options, as starter Jack Campbell has been awful, and backup Stuart Skinner has been good but inconsistent. Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin has lived up to his name as a top-2 goaltender in the NHL and is an issue for every team. I’m taking the Rangers here, solely based on goaltending. They each have lots of catching up to do, so this win will go a long way, and will come down to who wants it more. The two teams who are considered Stanley Cup contenders, currently see themselves out of a playoff spot almost 2 months in. This is as good of a matinee matchup we could ask for on paper, however both teams have been underperforming. What a way to start off an NHL Saturday, as we have Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers hosting Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. I’ll take the underdogs in a tie-no-bet wager, which returns your stake if the game is tied. Les Bleus were too good for a poor Australia team, but had arrived in Qatar on a run of 1 win in 6 games and can be faded at the current odds against a progressive Denmark team. Denmark recorded home-and-away successes over France in this year’s Nations League and is a more cohesive unit than Didier Deschamps’s team, which was stunned by Switzerland in the round of 16 at Euro 2020. The world champions are particularly light in the centre of midfield following injuries to Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, while Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and left-back Lucas Hernandez have been ruled out of the tournament in the last week. With star man Christian Eriksen happily healthy again and operating to a high level following a summer switch to Manchester United, the Danes have the right ingredients to overcome a French team that has plenty to prove. Denmark showed its quality on the way to the semifinals of Euro 2020. However, the defiant Danes have some value in Saturday’s crucial Group D game. I’ll take Poland to win, and bettors might like to add the under 2.5 goals as it looks set to be a low-scoring game.įrance eased to a 4-1 win over Australia in the opening game of its World Cup title defense, while Denmark was held to a goalless tie by Tunisia. Polish star Robert Lewandowski had a penalty saved in the opening 0-0 tie with Mexico and the Barcelona striker will be determined to make amends in game two. Saudi Arabia was a little more free-flowing when winning its World Cup qualifying group but there is little strength in depth in that competition, and it is difficult to see a team that failed to score against Jordan, Honduras or Venezuela causing Poland problems. That run includes 3 0-0 ties and Herve Renard’s team has scored only 10 goals in its last 18 games. Despite their heroics against the group favorite, the Saudis are not great entertainers and just 2 of the Green Falcons’ previous 11 games had produced more than a single goal. Saudi Arabia caused a huge upset in its first game, coming from behind to beat Argentina 2-1, but the stars of the first round of games may be brought back down to earth on Saturday with a loss to Poland.
